An Influential Activist Who Escaped From the Vladimir Court Was Detained While Trying to Enter Spain

The thief in law Levan Abuladze, also known as Levan Sukhumsky, was detained at Barcelona airport. The man tried to enter Spain with a fake Ukrainian passport, TASS reported with reference to the national police of this country.

Recall, in mid-December 2020, Levan Sukhumsky made a daring escape from the building of the Oktyabrsky district court in Vladimir. He was uncuffed before the trial on the criminal case of occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy, as at that time he was not in the status of the accused. Levan Sukhumsky went out to the toilet and fled in an unknown direction. According to the article Abuladze could face up to 15 years in prison. In the judicial practice of recent years the thieves in law receive a punishment that is close to the maximum.

The court refused to give any comments to the Vladimir journalists about the incident, the Federal Penitentiary Service said that at the time of the described actions the service had nothing to do with the authority. After the arrest the Spanish police also specified that Levan Abouladze was accused of fleeing from the court building. Georgian law enforcement authorities were involved in the investigation of the case.
