In August 2021, 2,315 fatal cases were registered in the Vladimir region. This is 569 more deaths than in pre-coronavirus 2019 and 447 more than in 2020, the regional Department of Justice reported. In August 2021, 874 new residents of the region were born. The death rate exceeded the birth rate by 2.6 times.
The excess mortality figures are consistent with the coronavirus bed occupancy rate. The peak of the third wave in the region occurred in July, in August both morbidity and excess mortality decreased significantly as compared to the previous month. In general dynamics the official data of Rospotrebnadzor on morbidity also show a downward trend.
In August, excess mortality was highest in Vladimir, Kovrov and Gus-Khrustalny. The sad indicator increased significantly in Alexandrovsky, Sobinsky and Vyaznikovsky districts, where the mortality rate was not high in 2020 compared to the indicators of 2019. In June and July, an increase in mortality was observed in Vladimir and Kovrov.
According to official data, 251 confirmed deaths from coronavirus were registered in the Vladimir region in August. Rospotrebnadzor data do not explain the excess mortality figures. Moreover, official statistics on fatalities lag considerably behind the real figures.
Thus, in reality, the peak of mortality in the region was in July, according to Rospotrebnadzor data, mortality from coronavirus increased by the end of August and is now at its peak. A similar situation was observed during the second wave, which peaked in December. This indicates that those who died of coronavirus are recorded in the official statistics only 1.5 to 2 months after their death.
