Vladimir Vice-governor Arrested for Two Months on the Case of a Million-ruble Bribe

The case was initiated on the basis of FSB materials

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Vladimir granted the petition of the investigation and put the former vice-governor of the Vladimir region, Renat Chagaev, in custody for two months, according to the press-service of the court.

Renat Chagaev is accused under Article 290, part 5 of the Criminal Code (bribery). According to investigators, when serving as deputy governor, Chagaev received a bribe of one million rubles from the head of a commercial organization “for taking decisions in favor of the said organization and signing acts of completed works under the contract for reconstruction and completion of the facility in the Vladimir region.

The press service of the regional Investigative Committee reported that it was a question of “signing the acts of completed works on the reconstruction of the unfinished building of one of the medical institutions of the Vladimir region. The ex-serviceman did not plead guilty to the alleged crime.

The criminal case is being investigated by the investigator of the particularly important cases of the department of investigation of particularly important cases of the regional Investigative Committee. The prosecution of the former civil servant was initiated by materials of the regional FSB.

Renat Chagaev worked in the Vladimir Region administration starting in 2013 under Governor Svetlana Orlova. From 2016 to 2018, he served as vice-governor, where he supervised the construction industry. In this position he replaced the convicted Dmitry Khvostov. During the trial of Khvostov, Chagaev’s last name was heard in the context of questionable sales of expensive cars. Previously, Renat Chagaev was the head of the regional Department of Entrepreneurship, Trade and Services.
