On November 18, Volha Medvedeva, a resident of Vladimir, came out to the building of the regional administration with posters “Suspension of unvaccinated citizens is discrimination! Stop the pressure” and “Give back teachers and educators to my children”. The woman brought her minor children to the solitary picket. Olga has three of them: two go to kindergarten № 29 and the third to school № 35. We remind, on November 16 teachers and educators of these institutions, unvaccinated against coronavirus, were not allowed to work.
The police detained the three persons in custody on November 14th , when the Young Front activists claimed they had been detained by the police. She was also suspended without pay because she refused to provide her employer with information about whether she had been vaccinated or not.
The woman told ProVladimir that she protests primarily against the powerful pressure now being put on citizens:
“First they suspended me from work, then my children were left without teachers and educators. For the sake of these teachers I drive my children across the city, and now they are left alone. I intend to fight to the end. I myself am against vaccination because I don’t want me or my children to be subjected to experiments, but I believe that everyone should make their own choice, and many in our city are now deprived of that choice”.
Medvedeva explained that it’s not just teachers who have been suspended at their school. On Tuesday, a checkroom attendant and a janitor were not allowed to work. Several inoculated teachers had to write resignation letters because they had to work 12-hour shifts due to increased workloads. For seven groups in the kindergarten there are six educators left.
Medvedeva was approached a couple of times by administrative and police officers, but the solitary picket was not obstructed. Her children also expressed their civic position by writing “Give Us Back Teachers” on the pavement outside the regional administration with chalk.
We should remind the official position of the mayor’s office concerning the suspension of unvaccinated teachers from work: it does not contradict the law. According to the decree of the chief sanitary inspector of the Vladimir region, by November 15th at least 80% of employees in 15 areas, including education, must have been vaccinated with the first component of the vaccine. Article 76 of the RF Labor Code gives the right to suspend an employee without pay. The decision to suspend an employee is left to employers.
It should be added that now the regions decide independently where only vaccinated employees will be admitted. QR codes have been introduced in most regions of Russia. And dissatisfied people go to rallies and pickets. Since the beginning of November such protests were held in Nakhodka, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg and Kamchatka. In Vladimir region only mass events and some individual institutions are not yet allowed to enter without a QR code.
