Gymnast Angelina Melnikova Representing the Vladimir Region Became an Olympic Champion in Tokyo

The Russian women's gymnastics team wins for the first time in history

On July 27 Angelina Melnikova, an athlete representing the Vladimir Region, won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Russian women’s gymnastics team won the team all-around for the first time ever.

The U.S. team came in second place, having dominated the event for many years. Third place went to British gymnasts.

  1. Russia – 169.5 points;
  2. USA – 166 points;
  3. Great Britain – 164 points.

Angelina Melnikova is a native of Voronezh. She recently turned 21 years old. She is a multiple winner and medalist of various international competitions. She represents Voronezh and Vladimir regions. Melnikova went to Tokyo as a leader of the national gymnastics team.

Before the start of the competition it became known that Angelina had to change the music, to which she performed in the last 30 seconds of her floor exercise. The reason was the difficulties with the copyright.

A day earlier the Russian men’s gymnastics team became the Olympic champions. Among the gold medalists was Artur Dalaloyan from Vladimir.
