The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Arkady Gostev visited the Vladimir region, where he opened a section of a correctional center in Suzdal, according to the regional press service of the department.
The center will house convicts sentenced to forced labor, a new type of punishment in Russia. The ceremony with a ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by the director of the federal department himself. He noted the importance of such centers where convicts live and work together with ordinary citizens.
The event was also attended by the head of the regional Department of Federal Penitentiary Service Alexei Girichev, Acting First Vice-Governor Alexander Remiga, as well as representatives of the tourist industry of the city.
Four correctional centers are already operating in the Vladimir region and 200 prisoners are working in them. Some of them work in tourism sector. In particular, in the position of unskilled workers. They clean the premises, wash dishes and do laundry. The average salary of such workers is 30 thousand rubles. In the near future the Federal Penitentiary Service will open new similar institutions in the region.
