Three Thousand Children Are Ill With Coronavirus in Vladimir Region

The regional health authorities have recorded a downward trend in the incidence of disease among minors

As of February 24, just over three thousand children in the Vladimir region were ill with coronavirus and were being treated as outpatients. In this wave the maximum number of minors observed in polyclinics due to COVID-19 reached 12 thousand. But now there is a steady decline in the incidence of the disease in the age group up to 18 years old. This was told at the online briefing on the epidemic situation by Tatiana Sorokina, the head of the Department of Childhood and Childbirth Health Department.

According to Sorokina, in the first waves of the coronavirus in the region’s hospitals were deployed up to 51 beds for the treatment of minors. But in this wave, their number increased to 175, including five with the possibility of artificial lung ventilation.

“Today there are 58 children in inpatient facilities, and it should be noted that among them there are 29 children under the age of one year. The maximum bed occupancy of children with new coronavirus infection in this wave was 110 children. I would like to point out that these were not children who were hospitalized heavily, but those who were hospitalized for epidemiological indications from closed institutions”.

Tatyana Sorokina added that now children’s covid-cases are functioning on the basis of ODKB, Hospital № 2 of Vladimir, Central City Hospital № 2 of Kovrovka. The hospital is currently operating in Vladimir, Kovrov Central City Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Gus-Khrustalny, Children’s Hospital of Murom district, and Alexandrovsky Regional Children’s Hospital.

As told by the official representative of the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor Darya Nikitina, children most often suffer from Omicron, as well as other ARVI, in a mild form. After infection, symptoms occur on the second or third day, but may appear later, within seven days. Most often it takes a week to recover, but sometimes the disease causes complications – maxillary sinusitis, bronchitis, and so on. In rare cases, pneumonia can develop.

It is emphasized in Rospotrebnadzor that complications usually develop because the patient doesn’t follow the bed rest or half-bed rest mode, untimely or no treatment.

Therefore, it is important at the appearance of the first symptoms of respiratory infections to stay at home and see a doctor and follow all his recommendations.
