A Man Demands Six Million Rubles for Beating in a Pre-trial Detention Center at the Behest of an Officer of the Federal Penitentiary Service

In the Vladimir region, the Melenkovo district court will consider the claim of a local resident against the regional Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia. The man demands to pay him six million rubles as compensation for moral damage.

The statement of claim says that in January 2017, the plaintiff was held in SIZO-1 in Vladimir. An official of the institution exceeded his authority, instructing two cellmates of the man to use violence and threats against him. It was assumed that after that the victim would confess to the alleged crimes.

As explained on the website of the Melenkovo District Court, the said official of the Federal Penitentiary Service was prosecuted for abuse of authority in 2020. A court hearing to consider the claim is scheduled for August 12.

Earlier it was reported that the head of the Vladimir penal colony № 5, as well as a number of his deputies were fired from their positions after an incident with a prisoner who was beaten by six other inmates.
